I draw from a multitude of theoretical orientations, though what often makes sense is a combined approach of understanding how underlying behavioural patterns have contributed to longer term “stuckness” or problems, while actively engaging in ways to change current behaviour and make healthy choices. I am drawn to mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in their ability to facilitate present moment change. Mindfulness allows one to see the "bigger picture" while in the heat of the moment, so to speak. The time-sensitive results facilitated by CBT allow for a more flexible client who can then pay attention to understanding deeper behavioural and emotional patterns. My approach is engaging and direct.
Therapy can be a life saver. Other times it provides an opportunity to adjust and release unhealthy habits. In a space of safety, psychotherapy can facilitate a heightened awareness and a sense of accountability that can add meaning and a sense of purpose to everyday life.
