Dr. Ilze van der Merwe has been a practitioner for more than 13 years. She completed her internship as psychologist at the Institute for Child and Adult Guidance at RAU, the outpatient ward at TARA Clinic, and the outpatient clinic at Johannesburg General Hospital.
Ilze has been in Academia for more than 12 years, employed as Senior Lecturer at RAU (University of Jhb.) at the Department of Psychology. She has served on various committees on both Departmental (Research) and Senate (Ethics) level. She has delivered papers on international and national level and has been invited on two separate occasions to read a paper at the University of Oxford, UK. During her academic career she practiced part-time psychotherapy.
In 2007 she relocated to Cape Town, and has since been in full-time private practice. Her current fields of specialization are the treatment of Depression and Anxiety Disorders, Pain Management, Social-Emotional Development of children and adolescents, Couple Counseling, Post-Divorce Counseling for the now single individual and parent, Care and Contact Assessments. She has extensive experience in Forensic work (Medico-Legal work, Road Accident Fund Claims).
She is continuously developing her expertise in the field of Psychology, Family and Divorce Mediation and Facilitation.
Ilze is an accredited Mediator and Facilitator with the Family Mediators Association of the Cape (FAMAC) and serves on the panel of Mediators for Equillore.
