Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a Cape Town based clinical psychologist in the CBD (Tamboerskloof). I offer therapy to teenagers and adults.
I walk your journey with you and aim to create a therapy experience that assists you according to what you need and enriches your life. Being part of the change and growth process can be very rewarding, and I love the work that I do. Therapy can be a powerful experience, which I would recommend for everyone at some point in their lives. My approach prioritises confidentiality, acceptance and respect of personal belief systems of the client.
Anyone looking for emotional growth, relief or change can benefit from therapy. I aim to provide a safe space where we can understand your experiences together with the aim of helping you connect with what is important to you.
Some of the issues I work with often include (but are not limited to)
I draw on different modalities as needed. I was privileged to train with some great teachers during my masters at UCT and later in Joburg at Tara and Chris Hanie Baragwaneth; as a result I can draw on different schools of thought in my therapy.
I generally base my thinking in a psychodynamic paradigm, where therapy includes and explores the ways in which the past informs the present. However, I draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy at times when these approaches may be particularly helpful (bearing current research in mind). I am excited by current research in neuropsychology and mindfulness, which also informs my work.
The first session is normally an introduction where we get to know each other and you can ask questions and see if we are a good fit.
A small number of sessions (3-6 ) may be enough to meet the needs of some clients, others may need longer.
I completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology at UCT. I was a registered counsellor before training as a psychologist. I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (Practice number PS 0127540). My professional experience includes working at a private adolescent psychiatric hospital for two years and completing specialised training on eating disorders at Tara in Johannesburg.
I offer to claim directly from medical aids if you'd like me to and it is possible.
