Social workers work with individuals, as well as families and communities, to develop treatment plans for people with mental health problems. They may work either in private practice or in collaboration with other healthcare professions. They hold Bachelor’s of Arts Degrees and are registered with the South African Council for Service Professions.
Dr Dürr-Fitschen gained many years’ experience at several welfare organisations, FAMSA, the Sexual Offences Court, and the Family Advocate’s Office. She runs a successful private practice as a therapist and divorce mediator.
Dr Durr-Fitschen has postgraduate training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Divorce Mediation. She is the Chairperson of ASWICA, which is an association specifically aimed at mediation services and implementing the Children’s Act.
