Registered counsellors perform basic counselling for people who are looking to improve their personal functioning. They can also assess to see if a client need more in depth psychological treatment and refer them to the appropriate practitioner. Registered councillors hold honours degrees in psychology.
Vida Buchanan, nee Beitz, is a registered counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and English Literature (WITS) as well as an honours degree in Psychology (UNISA). She completed her Bpsych internship (UNISA) at SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group), SAPS Victim Support group and Bella Vida Centre where she specialised in trauma debriefing work.
Following her internship, Vida began her journey working within the Employee Wellness sector. Since 2011, Vida has been working within the leading Employee Wellness companies in South Africa. It is here where Vida developed her keen interest in solution-focused, short term counselling and intervention.
Vida’s roles within Employee Wellness have ranged from Care and Managerial Consultant to now, Clinical analyst within the Business Intelligence department. Much of her previous work focused on; managerial consultation, case management, executive assessments and short-term counselling. As a Clinical analyst, Vida focuses on analysing psychological trends, reporting, innovation and research.
Her true passion is working with people and empowering them to reach their own potential in life. She enjoys gaining knowledge and challenging herself in every area of her life. Vida finds her love for art and dance a space for expression, creativity and self-nurturing.
