Registered counsellors perform basic counselling for people who are looking to improve their personal functioning. They can also assess to see if a client need more in depth psychological treatment and refer them to the appropriate practitioner. Registered councillors hold honours degrees in psychology.
As a registered counsellor I have been trained to assist people cope with various challenges we all face from time to time. I am particularly interested in life transitions and problems such as divorce, death, family conflict, sexuality and gender issues, substance abuse and trauma. These can be very stressful times evoking emotions of anger, grief, anxiety and despair which impact on our sense of well-being and self-esteem. A number of sessions with a trained, open and non-judgemental counsellor can be a very beneficial resource. I offer individual and group sessions to children, adolescents and adults and couples. In fact, I frequently work with couples either wanting to deepen their relationship or who are having relationship difficulties. I have a holistic and systemic approach that understands that people belong to different systems that all impact on a person. When appropriate I work with Systemic Family Constellations and the Enneagram, systems that enhance understanding of self and interpersonal relationships.
