I have been a registered psychologist since 1989, and have a wide range of experience in many areas in this profession. Among my special interests are: Helping my clients find (new) meaning in life in real authentic ways. Adjustment issues – this can be adjusting to a real life circumstance, such as a loss through death, work, circumstance – and even events such as birth (including post-natal depression), or adjusting to parenthood, marriage or divorce or the empty-nest and retirement and change of life, for example. I worked at Hospice in Johannesburg and did my Master’s in the field of Bereavement. I have trained as a Psychomotor Educator( ) and Psychomotor Supervisor. Issues around bonding, maternal and paternal adjustment and parenting are close to my heart. I have many years of experience in a wide variety of settings including high school, university (both Rhodes and over 20 years at UKZN) , research institute (HSRC) , hospice and psychiatric clinics (Tara and Akeso). I have experience in working with individuals or groups including support groups, families, staff of organisations, students and running workshops. I also have an interest in Recovery from addiction, and facilitate support groups at a local psychiatric clinic (Akeso) to this end. I am passionate about making the most of educational opportunities and learner’s potential and have skills in Learning Styles, time management, motivation and goal setting, examination management, stress management and adjusting from school to university demands.

I have completed a 5 year training in hypnosis from the Netherlands, as well as a specialisation in trauma work. In addition I have done numerous courses in complimentary healing to understand the mind-body-spirit connection better.

In addition I have attended numerous workshops, presentations, conferences and symposia to maintain and develop my professional skills and knowledge in the field. I am a regular contributor to New Therapist – Magazine for the Thinking Psychotherapist.

I have over 15 years of experience in supervising Psychology Master’s students and psychology interns.
