Counselling psychologists treat people dealing with normal life challenges, such as the loss of a job or divorce. They hold Master’s Degrees in Counselling Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Kegan is a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA). He has been in private practice in Port Elizabeth since 2012. He further works at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) as a researcher in mental health as well as a student counsellor.
Kegan began his tertiary education at the NMMU in 2003. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (BPsych) and qualified as a Registered Counsellor in 2007. In 2008 he worked at the Student Counselling, Career Development Centre at NMMU, offering a range of psychological services to young adults, including counselling, assessment and psych-educational workshops. In the same year he worked at the Centre for Access Assessment and Research at NMMU, assisting with the assessment of prospective university students. In 2009 he successfully completed his Master of Social Science in Counselling Psychology (MA Couns Psych) at the University of Fort Hare (UFH). Kegan returned to Port Elizabeth in 2010 to complete his internship at the University Clinic at the NMMU.
Kegan is passionate about forming meaningful and collaborative partnerships with clients that assist them in discovering more favourable ways of perceiving themselves, others and the world around them. This therapeutic partnership ultimately supports clients in achieving their personal goals. Within this process, Kegan is committed to maintaining the highest levels of ethical practice, through honouring each client’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
