I am in Private Practice at the Kloof Family Health Centre in Durban, KZN. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of KwaZulu Natal. I completed my Masters internship at the University's Student Counselling and Careers Centre, assessing and working with students who experienced a diverse range of psychological difficulties and challenges. Overall, I have researched and had extensive experience in the field of Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
I currently work with a multi-disciplinary team of Health Professionals at the Centre. I offer Psychotherapy and Psychological assessments to adults, adolescents and children facing a wide range of difficulties and challenges. Furthermore, I work with individuals who wish to achieve greater emotional and personal growth, or gain deeper self insight and awareness. I offer brief and long term psychotherapy depending on the presenting problem/s the client brings to therapy. I enjoy forming a therapeutic relationship with clients and facilitating a healing process. My aim is to create a confidential, non-judgemental environment where the client feels comfortable and safe to explore and work through the difficulties and challenges they are facing in life.
My Specific Areas of Interest are ADHD, Behavioural difficulties in children, Anxiety/Panic attacks, Depression, Bereavement, Trauma, Eating disorders (Anorexia & Bulimia), Coping with psychological difficulties & challenges relating to Cancer, Adjustment issues, Relationship and Marriage difficulties and Career development / assessments.
My therapeutic approach is eclectic, in that I use a variety of concepts and techniques from various theoretical modalities. These theoretical frameworks include, but are not limited to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Trauma Debriefing, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Family and Play Therapy. The therapeutic approach I use is dependent on the client's needs, preferences and personality.
I am a registered member of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Health Care Funders of South Africa (BHF). In addition, I am a member of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PSYSSA), the Durban Practising Psychologists' Group and the Post Natal Depression Support Association of South Africa (PNDSA).
