Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a Clinical Psychologist practicing in Illovo, Sandton. I specialise in couples’ counselling and life coaching, and work with individuals, couples and families from within a holistic, integrated frame. I charge medical aid rates, and offer consultations after hours.
I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space, assisting clients to cope with current life challenges as well as develop the inner resources and resilience for sustainable change and healing, through enhancing insight, self-awareness and self-mastery.
I have found that relationships provide the opportunity for personal growth through the development of self-knowledge, awareness and insight into the origins of dysfunctional patterns that manifest time and again. This may include aspects such as low self-esteem, fears of abandonment or rejection, and poor communication skills, all of which find expression in abusive or dependent relationships; or alternatively, difficulties in entering into or maintaining rewarding relationships.
With my diverse background and years of corporate experience, I provide life coaching not only to address a specific issue but also to facilitate personal growth, self-esteem and confidence.
Whilst I feel that knowledge and a deeper awareness of past influences are vital in understanding how a current challenge or problem has come about, I am also of the view that finding ways to manage and possibly overcome these difficulties in the present in order to live a more fulfilling and rewarding life, are equally important. For this reason, I offer both short and longer-term therapy, which will largely be determined by the nature of the difficulty and your expectations of the therapeutic process and outcome.
Additional areas of practice include depression, anxiety, hypnotherapy, holistic health & wellness, and bereavement.
Qualifications and Experience
I obtained a first class Masters in Clinical Psychology degree from the University of Pretoria. My clinical background and training include extensive assessment and therapeutic experience, having worked with children, adolescents and adults in various institutional and community settings. These include: Itsoseng Clinic in Mamelodi; Weskoppies Hospital (Children’s Ward); Tara Hospital Eating Disorders and Adolescents Ward; Sterkfontein Hospital Dual Diagnosis Unit (DDU); Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital Children’s Ward and Outpatient Clinic; and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital Acute Adult Psychiatry Ward.
Additional qualifications I have obtained over the years include a first class Bachelor of Social Science Honours degree with specialisation in psychology; a combined Bachelor of Arts Honours degree with specialisation in International Politics and Information Science; and a first class Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Prior to pursuing a full-time career as a psychologist, I gained considerable corporate exposure, with consulting experience in the human resources (HR), organisational design and restructuring space; as well as engaging on projects requiring facilitation and training. I have also conducted projects focusing on coaching, team and group dynamics, which continue to be of great interest to me.
Fees and Working Hours
I charge medical aid rates, which are approximately R680.00 per hour. I offer flexibility with regards to the hours I consult, and having previously had a corporate background, am aware that after-hours sessions are sometimes preferable. In addition, I am available on Saturdays from 13:00 to 17:00.
