Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Having completed a BA in Social Work and an Honours in Psychology (cum laude) from WITS, Lana furthered her studies at UP in the form of a MA in Clinical Psychology. She has been in private practice since 2001.
Her fields of expertise include addiction including drugs and alcohol, and addictive behaviours such as compulsive eating. She is particularly interested in working with eating disorders and disordered eating patterns. Similarly she works with partners and parents of addicts. Lana has a thorough understanding of the 12 step fellowships. She is able to assess and refer to other specialists and facilities if necessary.
Lana Is also well versed in the clinical assessment and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders.
In terms of her general practice, Lana has worked extensively in helping women who are battling with fertility related disorders. She also has extensive experience in helping clients who were sexually abused as children. Lana has a particular interest in working with those who are facing chronic and terminal illnesses, as well as those suffering with grief after the loss of a loved one. Further, Lana works with couples around co-dependency as well as in separation and divorce.
She has extensive experience in working with children who are dealing with normal life crises including parental divorce (not forensics), bullying, lack of scholastic achievement, birth of a sibling, death of a loved one and general anxiety and unhappiness.
