Clinical psychologists treat people with relatively serious kinds of psychological distress, like depression or anxiety disorders. They hold Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
I am a clinical psychologist offering long- and short-term psychotherapy to adults, children and families who are experiencing emotional, psychological or relationship difficulties, or who simply want to embark on a journey of personal growth.
My approach to therapy is holistic, meaning that we should always keep physical, mental, social and spiritual factors in mind. I work from a cognitive behavioural (CBT) modality with adults and children and play therapy with some children – and tailor my approach to each client’s needs.
I assist clients to manage the following concerns:
-Depression, anxiety and other mood disorders -Tourettes, OCD, trichotillomania and other impulse control disorders -Trauma (eg exposure to violence or sexual abuse) -Loss and bereavement -Personal growth and existential issues -Phobias -Sexual and gender identity dilemmas -Intellectual disabilities
In addition to the above, child and family therapy also covers:
-Managing ADHD -Behavioural difficulties -Autism spectrum disorders -Parenting sessions
I am fully bilingual, and offer therapy in both English and Afrikaans.
I earned a Clinical Masters degree at the University of Stellenbosch and a Masters degree in Psychological Research at the University of Cape Town, and have spent the past seven years enriching my practice as a therapist by remaining involved in community work, research and academia.
